Teachers from different schools trained on Road Safety


Traffic Care Youth Initiative Project in Rwanda sponsored by Global Youth statement for Road safety through Local action started with training of teachers came from different schools. The trained teachers will act as mentor in their respective schools where our education program on road safety will take place. 50 people attend the event, Vice Mayor of Huye District, Inspector of Police from Traffic Police in Southern Province and Director of Health in Huye District were among our guests.


Vice Mayor give opening remark to the trainees saying: I’m very pleased by this strong support we are getting from the youth like you today in improving road safety, road crashes are for real among young people and statistics speak itself. I remember recently in one school we had road crash for 13 students one of them died, other one left with permanent disability. The cause of this crash was due to drive with high speed and drive under influence of alcohol, road crashes is preventable if there is good education on road safety, advocacy and strong legislation on road safety. I conclude wishing you to have fruitful training and I really promise you a fully support that you need to contribute in decreasing the number of death related to road crashes.

Raquel project manager of Global Youth Coalition for Road safety explained about YOURS, Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety and Local action as well to the trainees. She also said “The importance of Local Action is that through concrete and tangible actions led by young leaders, we are at the end the day contributing in assuring that people, children, youth and another vulnerable road users are protect from system that do not respond to their need”.

After hearing testimony of road crashes delivered by Head Master at Nyanza Primary schools other speaker delivered message to the audience including: Alison (a Founder of Vision Zero Youth Council), Inspector of police from traffic department in Southern province and director of Health as well.


Last action of the event was the training on road safety and post crashes care facilitate by Dr Ami Nkumbuye , Dr Rene and Dr Theophille. The trainees learnt a lot of thing including: keys facts for road crashes around the world, Traffic signs and rules, good behaviour for pedestrian, how to stop bleeding caused by road crash, recovery position that put victim of crashes to prevent further injuries and other different skill were given to the trainees.
